My Prednisone Experience
After 3 days of extreme pain, and my movement diminishing really badly my husband decided I needed a pain relieving injection.
Firstly in my own opinion, I don’t think the doctor I visited really knew all that much about my condition and this really is the situation of the medical industry when it comes to completely understanding an autoimmune condition.
It is common knowledge that doctors don’t know exactly what causes RA. There is speculation that it could be a combination or genes and environment, however, there are 1000’s of RA sufferers who have absolutely no history of RA in their family.
I could basically have asked for any medication and he would have given it to me. But what he did is give me a shot of Dexamethasone which is a corticosteroid as well as 5 days worth of Prednisone 20 mg and some Percocet for pain. (Which I would never use).
So I get back home and put my feet up, and later that night go to bed and have a good sleep. When I woke up it was as if the angels were singing. I was completely mobile with only a little bit of stiffness and there was hardly any pain. It was miraculous.
I took my Prednisone as prescribed and by day 3 I was nearly going insane with the itches and my inflammation was back with a vengeance. And that was enough for me to say: No I’m not gonna do this.
The toxic chemicals I had managed to dump into my body in only 4 days was terrible. I feel so bad that I had reduced myself to this. The side effects of this drug are so bad, and I had promised myself I would not do this to my body – and I did. I realize today how far a person would be willing to go when you are in pain.
The drugs activated a rash in my right ankle and my left heel. Within 2 days the rash was out of control, and as I write this my legs feel as if they had just gone through a flea invasion. I’m sorry if the photos are a bit much but it sure explains it easier than writing.
Well, that’s it – back to the drawing board.
